I've lived in CO since '94 and I've done a bit of camping.  The majority of it has been with family, to random camp sites, but one of my favorite places has to be Lake DeWeese.  There is open camp sites, an area for RV's, or you can camp in the middle of the forest, or right up against the lake.  The camping is free, it's open to the public, and you can go fishing, boating, tubing, water skiing, jet skiing, etc.  I've only been there once, but the experience was enough for me to want to go back.  Behind the dam is a beautiful river/stream for ideal fishing or even for a nice evening walk.  The best part of my experience is sitting under the trees by a campfire, looking up into the clear black sky.  I don't think I've ever seen the stars shine so bright.  The colors that dance across the sky as the sun sets and rises is worth the staying up and the waking up early the next morning.  Cheesy

Where exactly is Lake DeWeese?  Anything else that is nearby that you would recommend if I was going to be out there for a few days?  Thanks!

I was out, but I think the depth has scared a lot of people away from the lake.  If you listen to the news you would think the lake is a giant mud puddle now.

Not that I mind an empty lake on an awesome day.
